A Century of Life and Legacy

In the year 1972, Don McLean’s “American Pie” was topping the charts, Richard Nixon was the president, and NASA launched its Space Shuttle program. It was also the year when Bob Barker, the iconic host of “The Price is Right,” began giving away brand new cars on the show. Today, at the incredible age of 99, Barker is celebrating a century of life.

A Remarkable Journey

Bob Barker, a member of the Sioux Tribe, grew up on an Indian reservation in South Dakota. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jo Gideon, at a concert. After getting married in 1945, Barker served in the Navy Reserve during World War II but never saw active duty. He later graduated from university with a degree in economics.
